Cooking Turkey In Convection Oven
If you plan to roast a turkey in a convection oven, you need to understand that convection cooking time and temperature is quite different from conventional or normal oven cooking time and temperature.
The best temperature for cooking turkey in convection oven is 300°F (149°C) and it can take anywhere from 135 minutes to 150 minutes to cook a 14-18 lbs unstuffed turkey. For a stuffed turkey within the same range of weight, the cooking time will be slightly longer: anywhere from 150 minutes to 180 minutes.
Regardless, there are other factors can affect the overall cooking time when cooking a turkey in convection oven. For example, a frozen or partially frozen turkey will no doubt takes longer to cook because extra time is needed to defrost it first. If you want to speed up the cooking time, be sure to use dark roasting pans.
If you use foil tent for the whole cooking time while cooking turkey in convection oven, you will find that it will take longer to completely cook it too. You might also want to take the rack position and the size of the turkey into consideration because such factors can also affect the efficiency of the heat circulation for even cooking.
