Convection Oven Cooking Times

The first thing that you need to realize when using convection oven is that unlike conventional oven, convection oven cooking times are usually shorter and it requires lower temperature.

However, with most recipes that are written with conventional oven in mind, it is quite safe to assume that you only need to lower the cooking temperature by 25 degrees Fahrenheit. As for the baking time, simply reduce it by 25 percent.

With that said, it is very important that you first find out if a recipe is written for a normal oven or a convection oven. If it is written for the latter, you no need to convert the convection oven cooking times at all. Some of the more high-end and expensive convection oven will have a built-in function which will adjust the temperature for you automatically though.

If the cooking time for a recipe is over 45 minutes (for example, meatloaf and lasagna), for the first half of the cooking time, it is highly recommended that you cover the food and then remove the cover for the remaining cooking time to prevent your food from drying out too much.
